M’kay…

I’m going to critique my own photo here ( because I can).  This is a SOOC (Straight out of camera) shot from our London trip.

#1 This photo is a tad overexposed.  I can fix that with Photoshop, no problemo.  The problem is my camera was telling me to expose for all the brick behind my punk, and it didn’t expose for his face.  That’s a problem.

#2  I cut off my precious punks feet which is a photography no, no.

#3  In my honest opinion, this photo would’ve been more visually interesting had I used the rule of thirds. If you want to know more on that subject, click on the linky.  If I had backed up more, taken the picture horizontally and set him to one side or the other, I believe the photo would’ve had more impact.

But here’s the reality of the situation:

#1  I was cold.

#2  We were walking to another monument and had only stopped briefly to grab this snapshot.

#3  I needed a different lens for this shot than the one that was on my camera.

#4  Did I mention I was cold.

#5  Rather than get everything perfect, I wanted this shot, this memory, and I got it.  No, it’s not perfect, but when we look back we’ll remember how we had just watched the changing of the guards at Buckingham Palace and how we walked through St. James Park along the Memorial walk for Princess Diana and the bakery where we ate cupcakes and drank tea.  We’ll remember how we rounded the corner and saw Big Ben and Westminster Abbey.  We’ll remember all those things fondly and then (inevitably) my punk will eventually ask me,

“Mom, why did you cut off my feet?”

Sincerely,

Fledgling – wanna- be- photographer – mom- of – witty – punks
